Overall, this is a nice looking app, with a fairly easy to use interface. However, I do have some pretty major complaints for an app that is $2.
As it is the end of Summer and heading into the classic "ale-drinking-season" of Fall (RE: Octoberfest), there are a number of local pubs and brewhouses which are having Belgian Ale festivals, where you can try a number of different belgians that you would basically have to be in Belgium to try. In addition, a number of the "Noel" versions are being released now, and it is a good time to try those out.
So ... I downloaded this app expecting a fairly extensive Database of Belgian beers ... what I have found is that it really only has a number of the well-known belgians (Delirium, Chimay, etc.) And even with the well-known breweries, there is not the full line of their styles... I have found free Beer Aps which have a more extensive library of Belgian Beers. This less than extensive DB is taking the app down a star. (Seriously, I am not talking about some obscure Belgian ales here ... Gouden Carolus, Scaldis, Delirium, Klokke, Petrus (only one listed, and about 7 different styles) and the list goes on .. are simply not in the Database?!?)
Finally, there is no place to add my own comments on the beers that are there. As there are well over 300 belgian beers, and many breweries have more than just a couple of types of ales, it is easy to forget what is your favorite, etc. Having some info that I can save when I try a Belgian would add that final, 5th star.
So, in SUM ... a solid app ... easy to use, and very pleasing to the eye. Based on that, 3 Full stars. And if it were a free app, it would be a solid 4 star app. However, for $2, it needs to add what other free apps either already have (larger database of beers) and the ability to log your own tasting comments.
I will say that I dont feel ripped-off, by any means, and a 3 star app is solid. If you are just starting out with Belgians, it is a great app, and I do recommend it for that. If you have a larger palate for Belgians, like me, I would wait until they expand the list and add the personal tasting notes.
